What are Nasal Polyps?

Nasal polyps are noncancerous cysts that develop in the nasal passage. They can get irritated, swell up, and block the nasal passage and sinuses. Often, sinusitis and nasal polyps are interconnected.

Nasal polyps can cause a stuffy nose and smell loss

When the nasal polyps swell up, they can obstruct the airways and lead to snoring or worsen obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Frequent Sinus Infections

Inflamed and infected sinuses lasting more than 12 weeks are often associated with nasal polyps.

Asthma

For people already dealing with asthma, nasal polyps can worsen their condition and cause frequent asthma attacks.

Diagnosis of Nasal Polyps

Nasal polyps are diagnosed in a multitude of ways. A diagnostic nasal endoscopy can be carried out to determine the size and the extent of the polyps. Getting an imaging test, like a CT scan of the surrounding sinuses, also helps diagnose polyps.
